New Year, New Portfolio!
I have a surprise- a brand new portfolio full of images never previously published on my site!
2017 was a HUGE year for me, both personally and professionally. I thought you might enjoy hearing a bit about how I was inspired to rethink my creativity in 2017.
Recently I published a post about my running painting challenge and how it has taught me a lot about myself and my work. I highly suggest you read that post here. If you have ever struggled to identify with your work, I know how you feel! Through opening up and exploring color and visual vocabulary I managed to find my identity again and I can't tell you how good it feels. One of the absolutely crucial things I have learned in the past few months is how to let go of my need for perfection. I didn't want to let myself make mistakes and I felt that if I had to scrap a piece that it was a terrible thing. That mindset made it hard to get working and led to a dread of starting new work after finishing a project. Now I am able to (for the most part, anyway) get to work and play with color and ideas. I am realizing that mistakes are not really mistakes: they are inspiring in their own way and lead to even greater work! Of course, I knew all of this, but it was hard to believe in my day-to-day work.
I finished the first sketchbook on New Year's Eve (crazy coincidence, right?!) and I was tempted to end my painting challenge, but I knew I couldn't because of how valuable it has been. I am looking forward to growing as an artist and being more happy and productive in 2018! Happy New Year!
