I will be exhibiting at Blueprint!

Surprise! I am going to NYC in May to exhibit at the best surface design tradeshow in the country: Blueprint!

I got the absolute best news ever last week: I won the Blueprint Shows Young Designers Competition! That means they are providing me with a booth at the show alongside some really, really amazing artists!

I cannot express how thrilled I am, and am flattered and encouraged by the kind words from the folks at Blueprint! Check out their site and the blog post  about the contest!

I was fortunate enough to be able to spend a day at the show last year and hang out with the fabulous Ine Beerten from Zesti at her booth. I visited SURTEX as well, and it was definitely a great trip! I knew that if I ever exhibited at a show myself that I would choose Blueprint. The Blueprint shows have a wonderful atmosphere, a boutique look and feel, and it is so relaxed and friendly!

My plan was to eventually apply to exhibit at the show, but I thought it might be a few years until I could work up the confidence to do it! Kind of at the last minute, I decided to enter the Young Designers Competition. I knew I would love to win, but I was sure that there was someone out there whose art would beat mine in the competition. I loved the work I submitted, and I am happy that they liked it, too. I feel so honored to be showing my work alongside so many fabulous artists who are absolutely killing it in the surface design market.

Over the last 8 months, I (sometimes painfully) forced myself to open up, loosen up, and just create. I was able to explore new colors and styles, and I finally started making work that felt like me again. It was definitely worth the work, and being in the studio gives me so much joy now! I am so glad to see that others are loving my new work as well!

For the competition, participants were asked to design banners like the ones used behind the exhibitors' tables at the show. Take a peek at mine:

I am trying not to freak out about how much I have to get done in the next three months, but I love my job, and I know that it is going to be fine (and fun!)

I will be sharing a ton of new work with everyone attending Blueprint Show 1 and will be posting a few sneak peeks leading up to the show, so keep an eye out on social media!
